As demonstrated in a previous post, Salome Paravis module can be used to import Code_Aster rmed results on Windows. Some people showed interest to a standalone ParaView version with Med support as an alternative to Salome. Although official ParaView does not include Med format, the fact of the matter is that it is possible to extract the ParaView version contained in a Salome installation. After a repack, a standalone ParaView with Med support is obtained.
Install Paraview 5.1 with Med support
Paraview 5.1 with Med for Windows is available in our download page. Extraction and repack was done from the official Salome 8.2 version. Simply download and extract the provided archive using 7-zip.
Then launch paraview-med.bat from the extracted directory.
Paraview is now running on Windows, ready to open a Code_Aster Windows rmed result file.
Open a Code_Aster Windows rmed result
Select in the menu bar, File -> Open and then select a rmed file to open. In this example we pick up the forma02a.rmed file, generated by a Code_Aster Windows run, as described in this post.
The view is identical to what it looks like in the Salome Paravis module. Click on Apply to make the mesh result appear, then right click on the mesh and select Color By -> RESU__DEPL.
Open a mmed mesh file
This version of ParaView with Med does not recognize the Code_Aster “mmed” extension. As an alternative you can rename the file and modify it’s extension to “med”. Else, select “All files (*)” in “File of type” combobox.
Then you can select a mmed file.
ParaView does not recognize “mmed” extension. You should manually select “MED Files” and click to the OK button.
Then as usual, click on Apply. You can also choose “Surface with Edges” in the combobox for the mesh to be dislpayed with edges.
Conclusion
Salome is a powerful framework, with a lot of functionalities and modules that can be turned to a great business tools. We presented here a standalone Paraview version with med support. As an alternative to Salome, it can give a much more lighter framework for Code_Aster on Windows for the one not interested to advanced Salome features.
One can follow this tutorial to step forward to Code_Aster post-processing using Paraview.
Unfortunately the included version of paraview 5.1 does not support paraview web. Is there a possibility getting a newer version 5.4+ of paraview to work with med files?
I’ve overwritten the paraview folder in the salome directory without success.

Thanks for the suggestion. This Paraview version correspond to the one shipped with Salome. Unfortunately current version used by Salome is 5.1.2. It may be possible, but difficult, to adapt what is done by hand for version 5.4+. The best is to wait for an upgrade to version 5.4+ in Salome and do the repack for Paraview med then.
